Dog Grooming Apprenticeships

Our Groom Room provides a much needed and integral pet care service to our customers. Our Groomers ensure that all owners and their dogs leave our Groom Room happy with the service they’ve received.

As a Groom Room Apprentice you will work towards becoming one of our Salon Stylists completing the Level 2 Dog Groomer Apprenticeship.

You’ll also follow our specialist instore training designed by our Grooming experts.

Prep it - You’ll learn the general role and get up to speed on the essentials: bathing, drying, clipping nails and overall preparation and handling of dogs.

Clip it - You’ll build on and hone your skills in areas such as scissor techniques and head styling. You’ll continue putting your portfolio together, and gain a more in-depth understanding of grooming.

Snip it - Finally, you’ll focus on the different breeds we work with and their specific grooming needs and styles. You’ll also learn how to handle and groom puppies safely and with compassion.

We also run in-house training courses like canine first aid and dog behaviour.

Q & A

Apprenticeships are open to anyone over 16 years of age making them a great way to learn a new skill and launch your career.

As long as your degree is not in the same subject as the Apprenticeship you are looking to complete, you are eligible to apply. For example, if you were applying for a Vet Nurse Apprenticeship and already have a BSc in Veterinary Nursing, you wouldn’t be eligible for the Apprenticeship.

No, currently you need to have lived in the UK for at least three years to qualify for Apprenticeship funding.

Yes, all our Apprenticeships run alongside a paid role within The Pets at Home Vet Group, this allows you to apply your learning in a working environment whilst earning a wage.

Yes, you are paid for the time spent in college if you are enrolled on a day-release Apprenticeship course.

No, you must not be on another course or Apprenticeship to start an Apprenticeship with us.

Sometimes called 'off the job training' or OTJ, Apprentices receive 6 hours of off-the-job learning per week, which includes attending college courses and time to complete Apprenticeship work and new learning.

It all depends on the level of Apprenticeship you apply for. For example, for the Level 3 Vet Nurse Apprenticeship, you’ll need 5 GCSEs covering Maths, English and Science plus an additional two subjects. If you don't already have these, we can support you to achieve these alongside your Apprenticeship.
