Pets

The OBWP Pets team is working towards meeting the huge target of ‘positively impacting the life of every pet in the UK by 2030’

This includes:

  • Increasing the impact of grants, donations and skill sharing to the rescue sector
  • Educating children in responsible pet ownership
  • Improving the health of the nations pets, focussing on nutrition and health plans
  • Setting the standards for the safety and quality of pet care products

We sent out a practice survey to find out what areas of pet welfare we should be focussing on. The results included:

  • Responsible purchasing of puppies and kittens
  • Behavioural needs of pets
  • Obesity in pets

These closely mirror the concerns raised by the PDSA PAW Report 2021 Full report.

The Pets Team will be working to bring you facts, top-tips and social media assets to help tackle these pet welfare issues. We were given an update from the Pets at Homes’ liaison with pet rescue organisations, Rebecca Clark, Veterinary Welfare Advisor. She discussed what rescues are finding challenging due to Covid, the increase in behavioural issues and the likely increase in owners thinking about re-homing. The Dogs Trust also have some useful information.

Coming up... A meeting with Pets at Home Head of Pets. A chance to discuss how we can work together to positively impact pet welfare.

Spot light on Vets4Pets Hereford!

  • Working with wildlife rescues

  • Euthanasia options

Look out for more news on this in the future…

Pets at home foundation

Established by Pets at Home in 2006, The Pets at Home Foundation is a registered charity. We believe that every pet deserves a loving forever home therefore over the years we are proud to have worked alongside rescue and rehoming organisations across the country who strive to help pets in need find their forever loving homes.

This year we have broadened our objectives which now allows us to support charities who work alongside pets and the people who love them. We will strive to work alongside likeminded partners to support those people who benefit either through the addition of a pet or through time spent with them.

We are passionate about helping pets and people and our work is only made possible by the incredible fundraising of Pets at Home colleagues and the generosity of pet lovers who believe in our mission, so thank you!

Your VIP Charity Lifelines are helping animals in need!

Every quarter the lifelines programme helps raise money for UK animal rescues by VIP members swiping their cards in stores, groom rooms and vets. To date, our VIP members have helped raised over £10 million!

Did you know that we support over 700 UK animal rescues? We do this through the VIP Charity Lifelines scheme, which is one of the benefits of the Pets at Home VIP club. VIP members raise Lifelines whenever they spend within Pets at Home and scan their VIP card, but also on all spend at Vets4Pets and Companion Care. Since 2012, VIP members have raised over £2 million in Lifelines just from spend within our vet practices, which has added up to an amazing £15,614,194 since the scheme began! Lifelines are accrued within our practices by us matching back VIP contact details with vet client details, meaning we do all the work for you and you can know whilst you’re caring for your VIP, you’re also helping those still waiting for their forever home.

Northampton Cats Protection -

“I just wanted to share with you photos of Kitty, our Cats Protection mummy cat having a break from her mothering duties and having a play on her brand new scratch post purchased with our VIP Lifeline vouchers. She is very impressed with her new activity centre, and so are we. The support of your customers who have nominated Cats Protection Northampton branch as their preferred VIP charity is very much appreciated and has been a wonderful source of food and equipment over the last few years. So a big thank you to Pets at Home for the scheme and for their customers' support.”
